Voy a Nicaragua para dos semanas!

Perdón a me, no he escrito nunca en dos semanas porque la semana pasada fue el fin de mis primeras clases y tuve dos presentaciones, un trabajo de ocho paginas y un examen. Ya terminó y este fin de semana pasada fui a la playa otra vez, por supuesto. Fui con una amiga y nos quedamos en Jacó para un día y una noche. En realidad fue muy tranquilo y solamente comimos, tomamos, caminamos y tomamos sol. Esto es para mi, todo lo que necesito en mi vida. Mañana voy a Nicaragua para dos semanas y después de una semana tan lleno de cosas como la semana pasada, una fin de semana tranquila en la playa fue en breve, exactamente lo que necesité! Voy a visitar muchos lugares en Nicaragua la primera semana, y en la segunda semana voy a vivir con una familia pobre. Hasta ahora, no estoy lista para ir, pero sin dudo, voy a estar lista mañana. Pues, para ir a Nicaragua supuestamente voy a estar en bus para 9 a 11 horas! Es terrible pero afortunadamente, voy a estar con todo mi grupo. Necesito sus oraciones para que puedo tener una experiencia casi lleno de cosas nuevas y que puedo aprender muchas cosas importantes de mi familia nicaragüense. Muchos gracias a todos que están leyendo mi blog y voy a escribir mas cuando regresará de Nicaragua en dos semanas. No voy a tener la oportunidad para hablar con nadie para estas dos semanas.

Forgive me, I have not written in two weeks because this last week was the last week of my first classes and I had two presentations, a 8 page paper and an exam. I have finished now and this last weekend I went to the beach again, of course! I went with a friend and we stayed one day and one night in Jacó. Really it was a relaxing weekend and we only ate, drank, walked, and sunbathed all weekend. This is really all I need in my life! Tomorrow I go to Nicaragua for two weeks, and after a week filled with so many things, the beach in short was exactly what I needed! In Nicaragua the first week I am going to visit a lot of places and the second week I am going to live with a poor family. As of right now I am still not ready to go, but with a doubt I will be ready by the morning. To get to Nicaragua I am supposed to be in the bus for 9-11 hours. It is terrible, but fortunately I will be with my whole group. I need your prayers so that I will have an experience filled with new things, and that I can learn many important things from my Nicaraguan family. Many thanks to everyone who has been reading my blog, I will write more when I return from Nicaragua in two weeks. I will not be able to talk to or write to anyone while in Nicaragua!

Dos semanas pasada fui a una exhibición de arte para celebrar 40 años de trabajo en arte para una artista de Costa Rica.  La artista se llama Fernando Carballo. Estuvo muy interesante porque pude ver la diferencia entre su primeras obras y sus obras ahora. En el principio empezó con su estudio de la forma de humano por su trabajo con lápices y plumas. Mas tarde comenzó a trabajar con óleo y sus formas de personas fueron mas suave. Ahora sus obras son una mezcla de su primeras obras con lineas y las del medio tiempo. La descripción de sus obras están sensual y erótica. Muchas veces los pies de la mujer están muchas veces mas grande del resto de su cuerpo, y también las manos de las mujeres son grande y masculina. Comenzó a pensar en formas de humanos cuando tenía diez años cuando se topó un bibliografía de Leonardo da Vinci. Aunque sus formas de mujeres y hombres son eróticos muchas personas les encantan las obras de Fernando Carballo. Todavía está trabajando y está pintando y en este año ya tiene tres pinturas de mujeres en la colección de la exhibición. Fue muy interesante para mi porque me gusta mucho ver arte y esto fue una oportunidad única para ver el arte de un tico.

Two weeks ago I went to an art exhibition that was celebrating 40 years of work for a Costa Rican Artist. His name is Fernando Carballo. It was very interesting because I could see the differences between his beginning works and his pictures now. In the beginning of his career he began by studying the human form through his work with pencil and pen and ink. Later he began to work with oil and the forms he painted became smoother. Now his Works are a mix between his early work with lines and the work with oil he started in the middle of his career. A good description for his pictures are sensual and erotic. Many times the legs of the women are many times larger than the rest of her body, and also the hands of the women are mostly large and masculine. He began to study human forms when he was ten years old when he stumbled upon a biography of Leonardo da Vinci. Even though the forms of his men and women are erotic many people love the Works of Fernando Carballo.  He is still working and painting and in this year he has already produced three pictures of women that were shown in the exhibition. It was very interesting for me because I really like to look at art and this was a unique opportunity to see the art of a Costa Rican.

Este Fin De Semana...

Este fin de semana, fui al Pacifico con algunos amigos a un lugar se llama Quepos. Estuvo un lugar de mucho turismo pero hoy no es el tiempo de turismo entonces no estuvieron muchas personas por acá. Nos dormimos en un hostil se llama The Wide Mouthed Frog. Cuesta nueve dólares cada noche y tiene camas buenas, baños limpias, una cocina, una piscina y también incluye desayuno. Nos conocimos a un hombre se llama Harrison Ford. En realidad no se llama Harrison Ford, porque se apellido no es Ford, pero nos llama a el como esto. En la mañana en Sábado fuimos a un parque nacional que se llama Manuel Antonio. En la mañana nos vimos muchos animales de la selva y saque muchas fotos de plantas y animales. En la tarde nos encontramos a Harrison Ford y comimos almuerzo en la playa. Nadamos en el océano en el parque nacional. El agua no tiene tanto calor como el Caribe pero tiene suficiente calor para Costa Rica. Mi parte favorito de este fin de semana estuvo la naturaleza que vi todo el fin de semana. En San José no hay muchas plantas verdes, pero en el resto de Costa Rica los colores son brillantes y me gusta pasar tiempo en lugares naturalezas. Vi un “three toed sloth” en un árbol con su hijo en la espalda con una sonríe en la cara. Estuvo muy chistoso y amable. También miré a un serpiente grande, el tipo fue “boa constrictor”, diferentes tipos de insectos, monos, iguanas, y también un caimen (el primo del aligator). Regresé en domingo a la una y comí una quesadilla en la ciudad. Después compré un libro en español. Por supuesto el libro es Harry Potter. Estoy leyendo en español porque quiero practicar y aprender mas español y esto es uno de los mejores ejercicios para hacerlo. Estuvo un fin de semana muy tranquilo, lindo, y bonito.

This weekend I went to the Pacific with some friends to a place called Quepos. We were in a very touristic area but right now its not tourist season so there were not that many people around there. We slept in a hostel that was called The Wide Mouthed Frog. It costs 9 dollars a night and it has good beds, clean bathrooms, a kitchen, a pool, and it includes a free breakfast. We met a guy named Harrison Ford. Really that is not his name, but his first name is Harrison. Saturday morning we went to a national park called Manuel Antonio. In the morning we saw a lot of animals in the jungle and I took a lot of photos of plants and animals. In the afternoon we met up with Harrison Ford and ate lunch on the beach. We swam in the ocean in the national park. The water was not as hot as the water in the Carrebean, but it was just right for Costa Rica. My favorite part of the weekend was all the nature that I got to see this weekend. In San Jose there are not a lot of green plants, but the rest of Costa Rica has brilliant colors and I like to spend time in nature. I saw a three toed sloth in a tree with its child on its back with a smile on its little face. It was so cute and cudly. I also saw a boa constrictor, many different kinds of insects, monkeys, iguanas, and even a caemen, which is a cousin of the aligator. I returned Sunday at one and ate a quesadilla in San Jose. Afterwards I bought a book in spanish. Of course it was Harry Potter. I am reading it in spanish because I want to practice and learn more spanish and this is one of the best ways to do that! It was a relaxing, beautiful and overall good weekend!

Este fin de semana fui a Limón con mi grupo de LASP (Programa para Estudiar Latino America). Salimos en viernes a las diez de la manana despues de una charla con un pastor de Limón. La tema por el fin de semana fue la pobresa en la región de Limón y la descriminación a los negros. Limón está en la costa del mar Caribbean y tiene una cultura muy especial. Es diferente del resto de Costa Rica. Tiene el puerto más importante de Costa Rica, pero Limón es la región más pobre tambien. Durante viajando en viernes nos visitamos una plantación de café, piña, y banana. Llegamos a la ciudad de Limón a las cinco de la tarde y comimos en grupos pequeños. Me olvidé comer la comida especial de Limón que se llama “Rice and Bean”, y comí una hamberguesa. En la noche, con un grupo grande, salimos a bailar en un bar. Bailamos la Salsa por dos horas. Sabado fuimos a un pueblo indígena se llama “BriBri” y aprendimos de este grupo de indígenas y tambien de su historias y manera de viver. En la tarde fuimos a la playa en un parque nacional. La playa parece como una playa de los calendarios de paradiso con los arboles sobre el agua. El mar tenía mucho calor, pero esto fue muy extrano para mi. Pasamos cuatro horas en la playa. Sabada por la noche comimos con un grupo de estudiantes de la iglesia bautisma. Conocí a dos chicas quien son gemelas. En domingo fuimos a la iglesia bautisma y conocí a mis amigas otra vez. Regresamos a San Jóse en la tarde. Hoy es lunes y el quince de septiembre, el día de la independencía entonces no tengo clases hoy. Manaña voy a la embajado de los estados unidos para mi clase y vamos a aprender de la perspectivo de los estados unidos sobre costa rica.

This weekend I went to Limon with my LASP (Latin American Studies Program) group. We left Friday morning at 10 am after a lecture from a Pastor from Limon. The theme for the weekend was the poor in the region of Limon and the descrimination of the black people there. Limon is located on the Caribbean coast and has a very special culture. It has the most important port in Costa Rica, but it is also the poorest region. While traveling Friday we visited three plantations: coffee, pineapple, and banana. We arrived to the city of Limon at 5 pm and ate dinner in small groups. I forgot to eat the speciality of Limon, called "Rice and Bean", and I ate a hamburger instead. That night, with a large group, we went dancing at a salsa bar. We danced to salsa music for two hours straight! On Saturday we went to an indigenous tribe called the "BriBri" and we learned about the group, their history, stories, and way of life. In the afternoon we went to a beach in a nacional park. The beach looked like one of those beaches in calendars of paradise with the palm trees hanging out over the water. The water was really warm though, which was strange for me! We were at the beach for four hours. Saturday night we ate dinner with a group of students from a local baptist church (there was also live music and dancing after dinner). I met two 15 year old girls who were twins. On Sunday morning we went to the baptist church and I saw my friends again. We returned to San Jose in the afternoon. Today is the Independence day for Costa Rica, the 15th of September and so i don't have any classes today! Tomorrow my group is going to visit the U.S. embassy in San Jose and learn about Costa Rica from a U.S. perspective.

Buenos dias mis hermanos. Comence a mis clases el lunes pasado y ya tengo mucha tarea. Tengo clases de espanol cada dia por la manana de ocho a las once de la manana. Me acuesto a las quince menos seis y salgo por la bus a las siete. Necesito una hora para ir a mis clases de espanol. Mi otra clase es sobre la cultura de latino america y por gue estoy en el grupo de literatura y lengua advancivo todo mi tarea esta en espanol! Solamente tengo mi segundo clase los martes y jueves en la tarde. Hoy fui de compras despues de mi clase y compre zapatos amarillos, una camisa negra, y pantalones para mi clase de bailar. Si estoy tomando una clase de bailar cada martes y jueves en la noche. Anoche fue la primera noche de la clase y si tengo dolor en todo el cuerpo. Estoy aprendiendo de la salsa, el merengue, y la "swing". No puedo bailar como las mujeres en mi clase pero poco a poco estoy bailando mejor. Tomo mucho cafe cada dia y ayer mi madre compro una taza para mi por gue, "toma mucho cafe" Realmente no tomo mas de las otras personas en mi familia. La taza tiene una pictura de una chica y su perro con freses. Soy la chica y el perro es el perro de mi madre, se llama Becki y tiene un vestido rosado. Finalmente quiero decir algo de mi tiempo en la biblia. En Juan cuando Jesus llama a sus disipulos, el dice que, sabia a usted cuando fue en su madre, y despues nathaneal sigue a Cristo. Como el, quiero seguir a Cristo con toda mi vida en cada momento. En la bus, en mis clases, y tambien cuando los hombres estan llamando a mi de cosas malos.

Good day friends. I started my classes this last Monday and I already have a lot of homework. I have spanish classes every morning at 8 am until 11 am. I wake up at 5:45 in the morning and leave my house at seven to catch the bus. I need an hour to get to my spanish classes. My other class is about the culture of Latin America and because I am in the Advanced Literature and Language concentration all my homework is in spanish. I only have this class every Tuesday and Thursday in the afternoons. Today after my spanish class I went shopping and I bought Yellow pumps, a black tank top and sweat pants for my dance class. Yes, I am taking a dancing class every Tuesday and Thursday night. Last night was my first night of class and I still have pain all over my body! I am learning how to Salsa, Merengue, and even Swing. I cannot dance like the ladies in my class, but little by little I am dancing a little better. I drink a lot of coffee every day and yesterday my mom bought me a mug because "I drink so much coffee". Really I don't drink any more than the other members of my family. The mug has a picture of a girl, her dog and a bunch of strawberries. I am the girl and the dog is my mother's dog, her name is Becki and she wears a pink dress. Finally, I want to say something about my time in the Bible. In John when  Jesus is calling his disciples, he said that "I knew you when you were still in your mother's womb" to Nathaneal and afterwards, Nathaneal followed Christ. Like him, I want to follow Christ with all my life in every moment. In the bus, in my classes, and even when the men are calling to me on the streets.

Estoy En Costa Rica (I am in Costa Rica)

Hoy es mi cuatro dia en costa rica. Es un buen ciudad y muy linda. Las personas son buenas y muy amable. Mi familia es el mejor familia del mundo para mi. Fueron orar para mi antes de yo vine a costa rica, como yo fui orar para ellos. Mi papa se llama Edgar y el tiene sesenta y ocho años. Mi mama se llama Isabel y ella tiene sesenta y dos años. Tengo dos hermanos y un hermana, pero todos tienen mas años de mi. Mis padres tienen cuatro nietos. Tengo un cuatro solomente para yo. Hay un buen baño y tengo agua caliente para las duchas. Todo es bueno en Costa Rica. Ahore estoy leyendo el libro de Juan en el nuevo testimento de la Biblia. En el primero capitulo dice que el Verbo fue con Dios en el principio, y por el Dios hizo el mundo. Jesucristo es el Verbo y todo el tiempo necesito recordar que El es conmigo como fue con Dios en el principio. Esto fue el lesson que me aprendi el primer noche con mi familia nueva.
Today is my fourth day in Costa Rica. It is a good city and very beautiful. The people are good and very friendly. My family is the best family in the world for me. They prayed for me before I came to Costa Rica, as I prayed for them. My father´s name is Edgar and he is sixty-seven years old. My mother´s name i Isabel and she is sixty-two years old. I have two brothers and one sister, but they are all older than me. My parents have four grandcildren. I have a room to myself. There is a good bathroom and hot water for my showers. All is good in Costa Rica. Right now I am reading from the book of John in the New Testament. In the first chapter it says that the Word was with God in the beginning, and through him God made the world. Jesus Christ is the Word and all the time I have to remember that He is with me like he was with the Father in the beginning. This was the lesson that I learned on my first night with my new family.
